Dr. Calvin Kam is an internationally recognized thought leader and industry ambassador for the built environment. As the Founder and CEO of Strategic Business Innovation (bimSCORE), he leads a global team of educators, visionaries and practitioners in helping companies overcome the challenges in integration of new technologies into their existing systems. Additionally, Dr. Kam serves as the Director of Industry Programs and an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), where he advises governments and private sector clients on strategic innovation in areas such as Management Scorecards, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Sustainable Development. Previously, he co-founded and served as Senior Program Expert of the National 3D-4D-BIM Program with GSA Public Buildings Service, overseeing its National BIM Program and fostering collaboration with international public owners. His efforts helped formalize international partnerships with Finland, Norway, and Denmark.
Dr. Kam is a recipient of various AIA, ASCE, SOM, Stanford University Fellowships as well as Engineering News Record’s “20 under 40” award. He is a licensed architect in the State of California, a Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia, and a LEED Accredited Professional. A Chapter President of buildingSMART USA and a former national chair of AIA’s Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Knowledge Community, he has delivered keynote and plenary speeches in over 20 countries, published extensively, including book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers.
Dr. Kam holds dual bachelor degrees in Architecture and Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Master’s, Engineer Degree, and Ph.D. (with fellowships) from Stanford University.
